SAIJO CENTRAL HOSPITAL

A hospital welcoming patients with a design utilizing endemic characteristics The Seto Inland Sea can be viewed from Saijo Central Hospital, located at a nature-rich traditional Japanese paper production area with Mount Ishizuchi in the background. We pursued a hospital that will be cherished by the local community and shared the progress with people's everyday lives. In order to make comfortable spaces full of natural light, every part of the building was constructed to have a view of outside. An open ceiling was made above the general reception and waiting area, utilizing design motifs of the symbols of the hospital: "light", "water", and "Japanese paper". The space is filled with soft light through panel curtains made of non-woven fabric, resembling Japanese paper. Holes in the panels express water currents and an expression is added by their transparency, creating a softer impression.
